How to Organize Bookmarks in Chrome

Bookmarks are designed to save you time, making it much easier to find your tabs later. Whether it’s a site you use often, an article to read later, or anything else you don’t want to get lost in a sea of tabs, bookmarks are ideal for organizing your Chrome browser.

But bookmarks can also quickly grow to long lists of links, becoming overwhelming and losing their purpose. To avoid creating the bookmark monster, organize your bookmarks in Chrome in a system that will make them easier to stay on top of. We’ll show you how in this article.

Additionally, it’s never been easier to organize bookmarks even across your whole team with Link for Work. You can store every bookmark in one place, and share it with everyone on the team in one secure link. The point of bookmarks is to save you time, and Link for Work can save your entire team time sharing URLs and bookmarks.

What to Bookmark, What Not to Bookmark

Before you go adding bookmarks to every site, you should create a strategy for your bookmarks. Since bookmarks are designed to save you time finding sites again, bookmark things that you either visit often or want to revisit. For example, save your email, social media sites, and articles to read later to bookmarks.

Do NOT bookmark EVERYTHING! That will defeat the purpose of making links easy to find! Only bookmark pages you want to revisit often, and you can also remove bookmarks once you don’t need them anymore.

How to Create Bookmarks in Chrome

You can easily create a bookmark on any site by clicking the star in the address bar of Chrome. Or you can also use shortcuts.

·      Mac Shortcut: Hit ‘Command’ + ‘Shift’ + ‘B’ to create a bookmark

·      PC Shortcut: Hit ‘ctrl’ + ‘D’

·      Android Bookmark: Open the Chrome app, tap the Star on the right of the address bar.

·      iPhone/ iPad: In the Chrome app, tap the ‘share’ button on the right of the address bar. Tap ‘Bookmark’ and it will be automatically saved to your “Mobile Bookmarks” folder.

To bookmark every current open tab the shortcuts are:

·       PC: ‘ctrl’ + ‘Shift’ + ‘D’

·       Mac: ‘command + ‘Shift’ + ‘D’

How to Group Bookmarks in Chrome

Unfortunately, Chrome doesn’t have a tagging system for bookmarks. You can get extensions for this, or you can use folders to group bookmarks together.

It’s best to create a system for your bookmarks so you can easily access them later. The idea is to save you time down the line, so although it may take more time upfront to get organized, you’ll thank yourself later.

Start by naming them something you’ll remember and will be easy to find. You can create custom names for your bookmarks, so get creative!

Then, if you want to organize your bookmarks in Chrome further, use folders and extensions. For instance, Link for Work lets you group links by categories to make it easy to find all the tools you need.

How to Access Google Bookmarks

To access your bookmarks, launch the Chrome Bookmark Manager. You can open it to see all of your folders and bookmarks in one place. You can also use the search bar to search for specific bookmarks.

The Bookmark Manager shortcut is “CTRL” + ‘Shift’ + “O” on a PC or “Command” + “Option” + “B” on a Mac.

You can also use “Command” + “Shift” + “B” or “Ctrl” + “Shift” + “B” to pin the bookmarks bar to your tab, so your bookmarks will never go missing.

And, to access Google bookmarks from someone else, you can use Link for Work to create secure, shared dashboards that the entire team can access.
